Tukulakulane Mayira School Community Bank(SCOBA) began as a simple savings and credit group under SCOBA project in 2020 with a shared vision of improving household incomes and strengthening financial discipline among its members. Like many SCOBA groups, members started by making regular contributions and supporting one another through small loans and financial guidance.
From Savings to Sustainable Investment:
As time went on, the group realized that saving alone was not enough to create long-term economic transformation. Guided by Kisoboka Africa and unity, trust, and a desire to grow together, the members decided to transition from only saving and lending into income-generating investments.
Their first major step was starting a poultry project. Through commitment and proper management, the chicken project steadily progressed and began generating profits for the group. The success of the poultry enterprise became a strong motivation for members to think bigger and invest more strategically.

From the profits and interests earned through the project last year, the group accumulated UGX 1,070,000. Instead of sharing out the money immediately, members agreed to reinvest it into goat rearing as another sustainable livelihood activity. This marked an important transition for the SCOBA, from a traditional savings group into a community investment model focused on wealth creation and resilience.
To ensure fairness and transparency, the members developed a participatory approach in selecting beneficiaries of the goat project. Four members who were to receive the goats participated in a voting exercise where fellow group members cast votes to determine the beneficiaries. This process strengthened accountability, trust, and collective ownership within the group.

Today, Tukulakulane Mayira SCOBA stands as an inspiring example of how community savings groups can evolve into engines of economic empowerment. Through teamwork, proper utilization of profits, and a shared vision for development, the group continues to build assets and improve livelihoods among its members.
Future Plans.
The group plans to expand both the poultry and goat rearing projects, increase membership participation, and continue investing profits into income-generating activities that improve household welfare and financial independence among members.
