In a country where only 2 in 10 adults in rural areas are able to save, Shanibah Nakisekka, a 10-year-old Young Savers Club participant, shattered all limitations last year – saving over Ug Shs. 410,000!
Shanibah is a 10-year-old Primary Four student and member of one of our Young Savers Club. Through the club, Kisoboka Africa has taught her to save, invest and dream bigger with less limitations to her dream.
Saving over $110, more than the average savings of an adult in Uganda isn’t just big. It is about redefining possibilities for a rural child, and this is how Kisoboka Africa is empowering the next generation to break free from generational poverty’s cruel grip.
Through trainings on saving and investment, Shanibah now sees money as a tool to get to her dreams. At just 10 years old, she’s breaking barriers that seemed unbreakable in her family for generations.
The best part of this story comes in how Shanibah utilised her savings. She bought a goat which happened to be pregnant and has since given birth to a pair of kids. Her dream is to sell all of them off at the end of this year and top up her savings from this year to buy a cow.
This isn’t just about clarity of dreams at a young age. Its about empowering them to dream even bigger!
Shanibah’s dream is to become a judge, fueled by her commitment to social justice; having witnessed how members from her community have often been deprived of their right to fair hearing due to inability to afford quality legal counsel. The only thing that once stood between her and her destiny was her family’s extreme poverty.
But with the fire in her heart and the trajectory she’s carved, we all believe Shanibah is destined to conquer her dream.
At Kisoboka Africa, we’re honored to walk this journey with her.
Because this is about redefining what’s possible. This is about proving to the world that no dream is too big; KISOBOKA!
This isn’t just about Shanibah, last year alone, 1,500 students from 18 schools came together and saved more than 14m Uganda shillings (Approx $3,500). All these didn’t just use the money for petty things.
Each of these invested in something tangible and the drive to save even more money has just grown intense.
At Kisoboka Africa, we are glad to walk this journey with them. Join us to walk the journey together by supporting us in this cause.
